Toyo Tires

For over sixty years Toyo Tires has stood for innovation, quality, performance, and excellent service. Toyo Tire has a relatively short but very successful history. It was founded in 1945, when Rikimatsu Tomihisa established the Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. in Japan. In 1966, Toyo Tire became the first Japanese tire manufacturer to establish a subsidiary in the United States. For the first nine years, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) only warehoused and distributed commercial truck tires. Passenger replacement tires were added to the company’s product offerings in 1975. The first Toyo tires manufactured in the United States were commercial tires in the late 1980s.

Toyo Tire has built a strong reputation in the United States. North American tire dealers in Tire Review magazine’s Annual Tire Brand Study have named Toyo tires the #1 Overall Brand numerous time. Toyo’s consumer tires have been voted #1 Overall Brand by North American tire dealers an unprecedented seven times since 2000. Also, since 2002, Toyo’s medium truck tires have received the honor five times.

Toyo Tire has been a big trend setter throughout the late 1990s and into the 21st century. They have become a leader in fitments and dynamic tire applications. As the sport compact tuner market exploded, Toyo Tire responded with low profile, large rim diameter, high-performance tires. Passenger car tire sizes reached 18-inches very quickly. Toyo Tire again set the pace in 2008 when they released the first-ever 26- and 28-inch passenger car tires. Less than a year later they followed it up with a 30-inch passenger car tire.
